Replacement & Maintenance Guide

Helpful replacement and maintenance guidance for Exhaust Muffler.

SystemExhaust
Description / What It DoesThe muffler reduces exhaust noise and helps route exhaust safely behind the vehicle. A rusted or damaged muffler can cause loud noise, fumes, rattles, or failed inspection.
Replace / Inspect GuidanceInspect yearly, especially in salt climates; replace when leaking, rusted through, rattling internally, or excessively noisy. Salt-belt vehicles may need mufflers every 5–7 years.
Job DifficultyModerate DIY
Maintenance TipsKeep hangers intact, wash off road salt when practical, and repair exhaust leaks before they spread to pipes or flanges.

I have an 04 gmc sierra 1500 with a 5.3 liter v8. I was worried that the sound would be too loud because the borla muffler is much smaller than the factory muffler, and the borla has a pretty much straight thru design. My exhaust pipe is 2 3/4 and this muffler is 3 inch, so after making my cuts there was a small gap to fill. I used two 6 inch long exhaust adapters which I could sleeve to any depth which made up for the shorter muffler size.after installing the new muffler, I was very satisfied with the sound. Its a nice deep low sound which doesn't drone out on the highway. I can listen to music on low volume and not even notice it. However, when I romp on it, it puts out this low tone, throaty, almost shredding noise yet it doesn't carry all over town and echo off of buildings like you see on other trucks. It provides that very traditional borla noise that I was hoping it would, and for the price I would definitely buy it again. This is my second borla product...

Great muffler! Just replaced the stock muffler on my 2013 Silverado 5.3L with this Borla muffler and left the rest of the exhaust stock...sounds AMAZING! Exactly what I was looking for...nice low, clean, mellow exhaust tone w/out any cackle or drone noise. Almost lulls you to sleep at cruise speed it sounds so good, but still gets the testosterone pumping and let's everyone know you're a man when you get on it! Great price and fast/free shipping from AutoPartsWAY as usual too!

We love the sound this muffler produces, For our truck it produces a nice low rumble when idling and is pretty calm when driving normal. Once you floor it, it produces a cool muscle car pitch that lets people know theres a borla here! we love it! Its not to expensive compared to other crap out there. So its money well spent.

Just got around to putting it on the other day. Has a clean, quiet, but still subtly loud sound to it. Much better than an N1 3" can in my opinion.

Bought this for my 2013 6.2L Sierra. It sounds great when you stomp on it, but is fairly quiet at highway speeds. The install was a bit of a pain, but that is on GMC's end and their choice of pipe sizing.

Great sound! I had them installed on my S4 (4.2) and the change is dramatic. The sound and even throttle response has improved. The price/quality proposition can't be beat. I've had flow masters, dynomax and magnaflow on other cars and I'm happier with the Borlas.

Installed this on a '06 Ford F150 with the 5.4l. The sound on the outside is mild but noticeable and very aggressive when accelerating hard. It is slightly audible on the inside and has zero drone. A nice performance sound - deep and rich. Build quality is fantastic, of course - Borla quality is always very high.

I bought this muffler to replace a flow master 40 series. The flow master 40 series is a great muffler but the only thing wrong with it for me was it made muffled sound at crusing speed on the freeway. It sounds great on acceleration but not at crusing speed. So I bought this borla muffler. Its not throaty as the flow master but you dont get that vibration in the cab like the flow master and it is just and little louder than stock and smooth you can feel the increase in pedal response. I put this muffler on a 2013 Chevy Silverado 4x4 crew cab 5.3 engine. If you like vibration and loud go with the flow master. If you want smooth and closer to stock sound go with this borla. I am not knocking Flow master cause they make a great product it is just a matter of preference.

My concern was loss of power thru the exhaust system, but did not want to exceed noise requirements. Easily accomplished with this solution.

I was a little worried it was going to be too loud on my Ford Ranger 3.0 V6 4x4 Automatic but it's quiet at idle and low RPMS. It is more aggressive sounding at higher RPMs (above 3500 RPMs) but that's to be expected with an aftermarket muffler.

worth the price of admission! nice light weight construction over stock is a bonus too. r&r'd the ridiculous boat anchor of a stock muffler and much happier now, finally sounds and flows like a Hemi. no simple way to make duals w/o losing precious clearance so single it is (WK 4x4).

If you want a muffler for turbo or N/A applications and you have a car with a small amount of displacement this is what you want. It is a good, high-flowing muffler with a good exhaust note and won't completely kill your gas mileage, for those of you that are worried about it. This isn't something that is ridiculously loud either. Knowing a few people that have had Borla mufflers before buying mine, I know they will last and sound good doing it. Also with its Million Mile Warranty and Stainless Steel construction it is a pretty solid muffler.
